Thanks to donor support, Basecamp | Cardiac Prevention + Wellness opened in March 2017. Named for the place where mountain climbers and adventurers come together to prepare for a journey of discovery and accomplishment, it encompasses 25,000 square feet of Mother Joseph Plaza at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Basecamp is the brainchild of James Beckerman, M.D., medical director of cardiac prevention and wellness at the Providence Heart Institute. Dr. Beckerman wanted a place where patients could rehabilitate and others could take steps to improve heart health and avoid future treatment. Designed to treat the whole person, Basecamp has been busy since day one.
“Eighty percent of heart disease is preventable,” said Dr. Beckerman. At Basecamp, you can learn how to make changes to avoid heart disease. We invite you to tour Basecamp, try out one of the free classes or just enjoy a tasty and heart healthy meal at the Apple a Day Café.
