With a bit of Irish luck, dollars and coins tossed by patrons at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub magically stick to the ceiling.
For 25 years Kells owners, Gerard and Lucille McAleese, have swept their ceiling and donated the “green rain” to the Center for Medically Fragile Children at Providence Child Center.
This year, although the ceiling was nearly bare due to COVID-19 and indoor dining restrictions, the event took place on March 10, but without the usual fanfare and celebration.
The McAleeses are dedicated to helping the children and their families and are determined to raise money despite the challenges. They are hosting a virtual ceiling sweep and asking patrons and community members to donate online. “The wonderful folks over at Providence cooked up this whole great virtual way of still contributing,” said Lucille McAleese. “It’s pretty exciting.”
As in past years, Carr Subaru will match the ceiling sweep, up to $5,000. Since 1995, the annual “green rain” event has raised more than $250,000 for Providence.
We are very grateful for generous community members, like the McAleeses, who support the unreimbursed costs of providing skilled nursing care, specialized therapy, equipment and activities for young people served by Center for Medically Fragile Children.
