M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund helped purchase a new 3D mammography machine. Early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer and advanced technology such as this will help save lives.
Research demonstrates early detection of breast cancer can save countless lives. 3D Tomosynthesis mammography is a digital technology that provides enhanced image quality (vs. traditional 2D mammography).
The 3D system takes multiple images of the breast from different angles producing a single, more accurate image of the whole breast. This revolutionary technology resulted in a 41% increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers; 29% increase in the detection of all breast cancers; and a 40% decrease in women recalled for additional imaging. The anxiety and stress induced by having to go back for a “second look” is greatly minimized with 3D mammography.
“We are honored to impact the health of patients with this new technology and so grateful to our community partners and donors,” said Diana Fisher, executive director, Providence Newberg Health Foundation.
