Providence’s leadership announced with great fanfare in March that not only would it revive a heart transplant program that shut down in 2011, but that a $75 million donation from Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny would help along that process considerably.
In many ways, Providence is perfectly positioned to create a new heart transplant program. It not only has the financial resources but much of the expertise and infrastructure is already in place.
