Thanks to donors, taking a medically fragile child to the emergency department for minor medical issues is no longer necessary.
Pediatric intensive care doctors at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center are now able to examine Center for Medically Fragile Children residents virtually through an advanced telehealth technology platform. Mounted on a cart that is rolled up to a resident’s beside by a nurse, “Rosie” allows the doctor to get a close look. Named after the robot in The Jetsons cartoon, Rosie is equipped with a digital stethoscope and camera. The doctor can listen to the resident’s heart and lungs, perform an ear exam, and view the skin up close for anything unusual.
Now, with Rosie, our most vulnerable patients receive immediate care from a doctor for minor medical issues without leaving CMFC. Doctors can better determine if a transfer is necessary, eliminating an unnecessary trip to the emergency department.
